#This scene makes me so sad#because above all else#above UNIT and Torchwood#and even the Doctor#SHE was a doctor#Martha Jones helped people - her passion was to heal#and save lives#and now she might be the only one who can save the universe#but at the cost of the entire planet#she’ll kill them all#and it’s the last thing that she wants to do#but it’s the only option now#so when this woman pulls the gun on her and threatens to kill her#Martha sadly nods her head and tells her to do it#because then she wouldn’t have to make this choice#and it kills me

oh my god martha nearly did to the earth what the doctor did to gallifrey

oh my god

This is the exact reason why I maintain my position that Martha was not, under any circumstances, the companion.

She was the doctor.

Now I know that he’s always the same man at the core after regenerations  so on and so forth, but when it really boils down, the doctor isn’t a timelord, the doctor is an idea. At least in the RTD era, every companion at one point or another, has had to make the choice to become the doctor.

Rose Became the Doctor when she accepted her fate as the bad wolf.

Mickey became the doctor when he stayed in the parallel universe.

Donna became the doctor during the meta-crisis.

Jack became the doctor when he ‘died’  for the first time trying to save everyone before Rose destroyed the Daleks.

But Martha? Martha was different, Martha was special. Martha never chose to become the doctor, because that was who she always was in her heart; and substantially she was the only companion of the RTD era who didn’t need to be saved by either the timelord doctor or TARDIS intervention (in the case of Jack, seeing as it was the badwolf, who brought him back).

Anyone who doesn’t like Martha because she was “just the rebound companion” clearly isn’t paying ANY attention to who she is, and deserves a kick in the ass. Martha was the strongest. She was lured away by a handsome man who flirted with her, but she stayed because he offered her a chance to see the universe and learn all about what makes each and every life important.

When Martha walked away from the Tardis at the end of Season 3, she knew who she was and thanked the Doctor for showing her the experiences she needed to have in order to accept the nature of what it is to be a “Doctor”. She learned how to make the choice, no matter what, to save lives. Even in the big picture sense, she would always remember how to save lives.

This is why she’s wonderful.

positive lady characters meme | Martha Jones + powerful/feminist moment

I was 900% prepared for her to flip the bird for science in this scene like oh here’s the bones of the finger that I use to say ‘fuck you’

hey remember when we used to have companions who were actualized individuals and not just puzzles to be solved

Doctor Who: The Story of Martha

Martha Jones: No Weapons, Just Words

I care about Martha Jones a lot, and sometimes I have emotions about what RTD did to her arc, and then I have to talk about it a lot. So thank you to MQ for giving me an excuse >:D

Long post complete with screencaps coming up.

zenosanalytic replied to your post “I think that Martha Jones becoming a UNIT bounty hunter after series 4…”

Particularly considering that she’s basically an international figure for her part in the resistance? Though to be fair, I stopped watching after that season and I’ve heard the Doc “reset” things so the deal with The Master never happened? Idk :/

Yeah, the Toclafane’s presence and rampant murdering of their distant ancestors caused an unstable paradox, and blah blah timey wimey tardis powers the Doctor reset the timeline to just before they arrived, so no one but Lucy, Martha, and Martha’s family remembered what she’d done. Which was a shame because that was a damn fine heroic journey.

I think that Martha Jones becoming a UNIT bounty hunter after series 4 was a waste of not only her medical expertise and legendary public speaking skills but also her entire narrative arc.

Didn’t really need you in the end, did we?

#this is why i don’t understand that people dislike martha #because she tried so hard to be there for ten she tried so hard to make him feel like he was not alone #like he had someone to talk to someone to confide in and he just looked right through her #she was never enough for him never the person he wanted to share his stories with and she stayed with him anyway #she stayed with him because she knew he couldn’t be alone and she fought for him and she saved his life #and she did it all knowing he thought she wasn’t good enough #and then before it was too late before she got in too deep she actually had to courage to say ‘no’ #to the man she loved and fuck you if that isn’t brave and strong and amazing #martha jones is better than you (via ohroes)

I think this might be why, of all the new series’ companions, I don’t like Martha Jones.

Rose, Donna and Amy didn’t want to leave ‘My Doctor’, ‘Raggedy Man’ or ‘Spaceboy’, but they didn’t have a choice.

Martha Jones just walked away.

Martha’s family had just gone through a year of hell.  A year of being TORTURED, a year where they were threatened with DEATH every day, a year where they saw horrors unimaginable.  They needed her

Martha herself just went through a year of hell.  A year where she was hunted every day.  A year where there was a special forces unit tasked with doing nothing but tracking her down.  A year where she saw an entire country burn in front of her eyes.  A year where she witnessed more death and destruction than any one person should ever have to.  A year where she saved the universe not with magic TARDIS/Metacrisis/Universe crack powers but with her own brains, cunning, determination and willpower.  She needed her family.

She had also just spent a year in love with a man who didn’t love her back.  A man who was often dismissive of her thoughts and feelings.  A man who she had to watch fall in love with another woman and accuse her of being his executioner after two months of going from being a doctor to a maid in an era when she was thought of as less than a person because of the color of her skin.  Then three more month of working in a shop to support him.  Her thanks for those things was “thank you” and a hug.  She went through a year where she TIME AND AGAIN proved herself, delivered the impossible and yet was judged unworthy just because she wasn’t someone she’d never met.  And THEN the year of literal hell.

Put yourself in her shoes for just a minute.

She made absolutely the right decision, for her own mental and emotional well being, and for her family’s.  She still cared for him, she gave him a lifeline back to her, but she couldn’t survive in that environment anymore, having her self esteem torn down every day after she had proved over and over just how amazing she was.

If you don’t like Martha Jones I don’t even know what you’re doing with your life.

This should be a reason to fucking love Martha Jones. I just can’t abide an opinion that’s basically, “I don’t like this female character because her life didn’t revolve around this male character and she decided to do what was right for her own happiness instead of sacrificing everything for him.”

No.
